Dietician and Nutrition Services
Proper nutrition is needed to live a healthy life and to promote healing. FAMC Dietary Services provide a selective menu for inpatients and outpatients staying over the meal hour.
Nutrition counseling for those with special dietary needs or for those who would like to lose weight is also available on a referral basis. April Sorensen, RD, LN, serves as the facility dietician. To schedule an appointment, contact your primary health professional for a referral or call 605-598-1147.
April is a registered, licensed dietitian. The state of South Dakota requires licensure for dietitians to help monitor information for accuracy, safety and efficacy. She is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

At FAMC, we provide the community with many classes, programs, and events that emphasize good health and wellness. Telemedicine
Telemedicine makes it possible for patient clinic visits with several specialty physicians located elsewhere.
Telehealth is a means of providing communication for healthcare-related programs and education to various medical satellite facilities, like ours, that are connected on a bridge between Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, SD, and/or Avera St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, SD.
The Faulkton Area Medical Center Foundation, along with grant monies from Avera, has provided funds for new, updated equipment, which includes a polycom, monitor, and modem to transfer information between facilities, an electronic stethoscope, electronic otoscope, and a camera. This equipment is state of the art and we have it all right here at FAMC!
Patient clinic visits via telemedicine with a specialty provider save time, the cost of traveling, and, most importantly, are much easier on the patient.
If you are interested in a telemedicine clinic visit, please talk to your healthcare provider.
